Invisalign FAQs
Read the answers to our most frequently asked questions.
-
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a series of clear, custom-fitted aligners that straighten your teeth without metal wires or brackets.
Using our technology during the consultation process, we will create a treatment plan based on your unique smile.
A series of custom clear aligners will then be manufactured to fit your teeth precisely during each stage of the Invisalign treatment process.
-
How does the Invisalign process work?
Your Invisalign aligners work by shifting your teeth in small steps. You’ll wear each set for a specific number of days before switching to the next one. This continues until your teeth reach their ideal positions, with the total treatment time determined by your dentist based on your needs.
-
How long does Invisalign treatment take?
Your dentist will determine the duration of your Invisalign treatment based on your specific needs.
Factors that may determine the duration of your treatment include the misalignment of your teeth or jaw, the shape of your bite, and the amount of movement required to correct the problem.
-
What are Invisalign aligners made of?
The Invisalign aligners are made with USP Class VI medical-grade, high molecular weight polyurethane resins. They are BPA free.
-
How often do I have to visit the dentist?
With Invisalign, there’s no need for adjustments or tightening; just switch to the next set of aligners as directed. We’ll see you every four to six weeks for brief checkups to track your progress, answer questions, and tweak your treatment if necessary.
-
What are the primary features of Invisalign?
The features of Invisalign include:
- A discreet, low profile appearance
- Smooth construction for enhanced comfort
- Do not require adjustment appointments
- Removable for eating, brushing and flossing
-
How much does Invisalign cost?
The cost of Invisalign depends on how complex your case is and how long your treatment will take. Generally, the more severe the alignment issues, the more aligners you’ll need, and the higher the cost. In many cases, Invisalign is similar in price to traditional braces.
-
What financing options do you offer?
We offer flexible financing options to support your Invisalign treatment journey. Speak to your dentist or click here to learn more.
-
How will Invisalign fit my lifestyle?
Invisalign is designed to fit comfortably into your day-to-day life. You can remove your aligners to eat, drink, brush, and floss, allowing you to maintain a clean and healthy mouth without any extra dietary restrictions.
-
Are there any food or drink restrictions?
Invisalign aligners are removable, meaning you can take them out to eat. As a result, there are no additional dietary restrictions when it comes to Invisalign, so you can continue to eat all the foods you love!
To avoid staining your clear aligners and potentially damaging your teeth, we recommend removing the aligners when you consume any beverages other than regular water.
-
How many sets of aligners will I need?
How many aligners you’ll need depends on the severity of your misalignment. During your first visit, your dentist will assess your smile and provide a clear estimate.
-
Can adults use Invisalign?
Yes! Anyone who has healthy teeth and gums is a potential candidate for Invisalign.
More and more adults are deciding to undergo orthodontic treatment these days, in large part because options like Invisalign have become available.
-
Can teenagers use Invisalign?
Yes! Teens can certainly be candidates for Invisalign. In fact, Invisalign has created a line of aligners to meet the unique needs of teenagers.
Invisalign Teen aligners have compliance indicators on them (small blue dots that fade away after the aligners have been worn enough) to help teens stay on track with their treatment.
They also come with eruption tabs that provide space for second molars and help prevent them from growing in crooked.
-
How often do I have to change my Invisalign aligners?
Most people change to their next aligners roughly every two weeks. Your dentist will give you the exact schedule for when to make each change.
-
How do I clean my aligners?
Keeping your Invisalign aligners clean is simple, but important for a healthy smile. Each time you remove them, rinse them to wash away saliva and plaque that can cause decay or bad breath.
Always brush and floss your teeth before putting your aligners back in. Good oral hygiene helps prevent cavities and keeps your breath fresh. Skipping this step can trap food and bacteria between your teeth and aligners, increasing the risk of dental problems.
To keep your aligners clear and bacteria-free, clean them gently with a clear antibacterial soap. Brush lightly so you don’t scratch them, then rinse thoroughly.
You can also soak your aligners as needed using denture cleaner, Retainer Brite, or the official Invisalign cleaning crystals.
-
Can I play sports with Invisalign?
Invisalign aligners are removable so you can play sports without worrying about causing damage to your aligners.
However, keep in mind that Invisalign aligners must be kept in for a minimum of 22 hours a day, so plan your time carefully.
It is also recommended that you invest in a sports mouth guard to protect your teeth, as orthodontic treatment can cause your teeth to loosen slightly as they shift into their new positions, and this can make them more susceptible to damage.
-
Can I play my instrument with Invisalign?
Yes! Simply remove your aligners if required to practice playing your instrument, and pop them back in when you're done.
-
How do I store my aligners?
Each set of Invisalign aligners comes with its own case. Always store your aligners in the case when you remove them to protect them. Also, try to keep them away from heat, as high temperatures can cause the plastic to deform.
