What is a Dental Veneer?

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells designed to cover the front surface of your teeth. Crafted from durable, tooth-coloured materials by a dental laboratory, veneers are customized to match the shape, size, and shade you want for your smile.

At Platinum Dental Care, our dentists use veneers to enhance the appearance of your teeth, creating a more balanced and uniform smile. By bonding a veneer to the front of your natural tooth, we can improve its colour, shape, and symmetry with minimal alteration to your existing tooth structure.

Veneers are an excellent option if you want to refine the shape of individual teeth or improve the overall evenness of your smile.

With proper care and regular dental checkups, veneers can provide a long-lasting, natural-looking solution that keeps your smile looking its best for many years.

Caring for Veneers

Although dental veneers are strong and long-lasting, taking proper care of them is key to keeping them beautiful for years to come.

Maintaining good oral hygiene is the first step: brush twice a day with a non-abrasive toothpaste and floss daily to stop plaque from building up around your veneers and natural teeth.

While veneers are resistant to stains, try to limit foods and drinks that can cause discolouration, such as coffee, tea, and red wine. Additionally, avoid using your teeth as tools to open packages as this can chip or damage veneers.

Regular dental checkups are also important. They allow your dentist to monitor the condition of your veneers and clean areas that are difficult to reach at home.

Getting Veneers

The process of getting veneers begins with a consultation, where your dentist will examine your teeth, discuss your goals, and determine if veneers are the right option for you. During this visit, impressions or digital scans are taken of your teeth to guide the creation of custom veneers that fit perfectly.

In the next step, a small amount of enamel is gently removed from the front surface of your teeth to allow the veneers to sit properly and look natural. Temporary veneers may be placed while your custom veneers are being made.

Once your permanent veneers are ready, your dentist will carefully bond each one to your teeth using a dental cement, checking the fit, shape, and colour to ensure a seamless appearance.
